Making an Observation | Montessori

How to create a Montessori-based observation in your Ovivio platform and set next steps with ease.

  • Create an observation

    • Dashboard > Make Observation > Add Children

  • Write your observation and select a Montessori activity from the dropdown box or input your own in the text box.

📌Note: There are over 400 Montessori Activities within the platform linked to the EYFS by Montessori creditors on our advisory panel.

  • Next to the child’s name, you can select the progress level as emerging, developing or secure:

    • Emerging: The teacher has presented the activity and the child is just being introduced. When selecting a child’s next step, the platform will urge you to repeat the same activity.

    • Developing: The teacher has presented the activity many times before and the child is becoming familiar. They can complete the activity aided. When selecting a child’s next step, the platform will urge you to repeat the same activity.

    • Secure: The child can carry out the full activity unaided. When selecting a child’s next step, the platform will suggest the next activity to move onto.

  • Click Link to Framework if you wish to link an additional curriculum.

    • If you choose Development Matters or EYFS and toggle on ‘Only show suggested links’, it will recommend statements relevant to the Montessori activity you’ve selected.

  • Select the child’s progress > Save.

📌Note: If you cannot see any additional curriculums, click More > Settings > Select curriculums > toggle on the ones you want to use.

  • Click Set Next Steps

    • Here, you can link a Montessori activity to do next, and/or a different framework where you can select an area(s) of learning and write your own next steps tailored to each child’s development.

  • Create the Next Step > Save.

  • Optional: tick 'Share on parent app’ under the child’s name.

    • Once approved, the observation will automatically be shared to the Parent App. If it is not ticked, it will remain on your platform until you wish to share it in the future.

📌Note: if you want this ticked on automatically going forward, click More > Settings > Parent app (left side tab) > Parent communication > Share all observations with parents (Edit) > toggle on > Save.

  • Review & Approve Observation
